Homeowner’s Insurance

Why Homeowners Insurance?
Your home is often your most valuable financial asset. So, protecting it properly with a strong insurer who demonstrates fast, fair claim service is critical to your long term financial security. Additionally, your mortgagee requires insurance and to be named as loss payee on the policy.
Your homeowner policy protects you against a wide range of unpredictable events affecting your home, other buildings on your property, your personal property (e.g., clothes, furniture, appliances, electronic equipment, wheel chairs, etc.). These events include fire, windstorms, lightning, explosions, falling objects, freezing, theft and vandalism.
Homeowners insurance also covers additional living expenses if your home becomes uninhabitable after a covered loss. But policies do have limitations on certain types of property covered including: boats, money, jewelry, works of art, antiques, guns and business property. Additionally, how claims are adjusted (e.g., replacement cost or actual cash value) and what perils are covered varies (e.g., earthquake, ordinance and law, water backup, debris removal). Special riders can cover most of these risks. Flood coverage generally requires a separate policy.
Homeowners insurance also covers medical payments (excluding payments for household members) and personal liability (excluding automobile and business) related to someone getting injured on your property or through your activities (e.g., your dog bites someone or your stray golf ball hits someone other than household members) or damage to the another’s property (e.g., an explosion on your property damages your neighbor’s home).
Homeowners insurance has many more options and potential for cost saving credits than auto insurance. When you contact a Beacon agent we will work to understand your concerns and risks, and tailor a competitively priced policy from a quality insurer to fit your individual needs.
